Francesco Landini (1325–1397), described by the poet Cino Rinuccini as blind in body but enlightened in soul, was considered the leading Florentine musician of his time, admired for the sweetness and expressive power of his music.

This program pays tribute to Landini, the foremost representative of the Italian Ars Nova, presenting a selection of his secular polyphonic works, especially ballate. These pieces will be performed using the medieval practice of contrafactum, replacing the original secular texts with sacred ones while leaving the music unchanged.

The works are transcribed from the Squarcialupi Codex and performed on replicas of historical instruments. The program also includes medieval sacred repertoire preserved in Florence, such as selections from the Cantigas de Santa Maria and laude from the Laudario Magliabechiano, among the most important sources of European medieval sacred music.
