The Garden
“The double line of dark cypress, and the intricate underbrush of rosemary, lavender and Chinese roses, the shimmering
meadow of spring daffodils and wild orchids, and here and there, the busy buzz of the bees, compose an unforgettable picture.”
- Janet Ross, Old Florence

In the garden, imagine yourself in another time, in perfect harmony with the surrounding agricultural landscape, where the end of the garden is indistinguishable from the beginning of the fields. Conversations happen here, admist grape vines and olive trees, as new friends gather on terraces adorned with irises and ancient roses. Reminiscent of an English garden, the setting honors each plant’s character and celebrates its spontaneous contribution to the lush Tuscany countryside.

Two ‘hortus conclusus’ gardens grow near the historic Villa. These gardens, enclosed by the property’s stone walls, host a dimension where time stands still. They are spots for meditation and work, which recall the Classical view of leisure, which the ancients called ‘otium’. Centuries-old trees complete the landscape and offer welcome shade in summer, a refreshingly cool ‘bit of earth’ on sunny days.
