BRYONY WRIGHT
London, U.K.
August 2026.
Bryony Wright is a freelance professional photographer and video artist from London. She spent the last summer at Il Palmerino to continue developing her research and artistic practice.
Originally coming from the world of fashion. In recent years she has engaged more in her own personal projects. Her interdisciplinary approach includes working with various moving image mediums, including animation and more experimental approaches.
During her time with us, she immersed herself in II Palmerino and the surrounding landscape. She contemplated the historical and cultural implications of the area and the landscape and set about collecting material to archive. This will later become a part of her work. Alongside shooting the wilder and natural aspects of the landscape she became particularly focussed on the Renaissance style of designing gardens to express a particular idea of beauty.
She often wanders, observes, and allows chance to shape her process. As she said "You have to be very adaptable being creative. You have to keep moving.” The artist is trying out a current path of work in which she distributes her creative energy between the mediums of text (for instance, writing screenplays) and videography.
Something that caught our attention while conversing with her was her courage to forget the boundaries of her profession, and allow herself to come to the hills of Florence to play with her cameras and to open herself to new experiences and to the unexpected. Her practice seems to emerge precisely from this attitude. Where photography and film become tools for exploration rather than fixed ends.
Bryony states that Il Palmerino has been a very successful experience for her, where she had the opportunity to participate fully in this playful approach. It provided an environment conducive to focusing time on writing as well as shooting photos and videos: "It‘s a very magical place. An absolute idyll. And the extreme heat of the summer made it even more of an intoxicating experience! A truly unique place that the II Palmerino has beautifully cultivated. I felt very emotional when leaving.”.
Dear Byrony, it has been a pleasure to have you playing around as well as we enjoyed being able to converse with you about your art practice and current works. Thank you.
